Our Team We are proud of our staff and the experience that they bring to our firm. Ted DeLong has been in the accounting profession since 1967 and Chuck Brower since 1981. Dave Sides, a CPA since 1988, became a shareholder in the firm in 1995. The remaining CPA’s in our firm have been with us between five to twelve years, a situation that is quite unusual in this profession where high turnover is the norm. This creates a valuable continuity between our staff and our clients. Our staff brings a wide range of accounting, taxation and consulting expertise to our firm. In addition, several of our staff have attained certification in other areas such as estate planning, wealth management, retirement analysis, and payroll administration. David Sides, CPA, Shareholder Dave graduated from Grand Valley State College in 1985. He has been working in public accounting since 1984 and has been with DeLong & Brower since 1989. He was admitted as shareholder of the firm in 1995. He specializes in tax and financial planning and compliance for individuals, closely-held businesses and fiduciaries. Dave and his family have been actively involved at Lakeshore Baptist Church for many years. He is married and has four children. E-mail: dsides@cpaholland.com Chuck Brower, CPA, Shareholder Chuck has more than twenty-five years of public accounting experience, and was a co-founder of DeLong & Brower in 1988. His specialties include individual taxation and small business consulting. Chuck graduated from Central Michigan University with a BS in Business Administration. He is currently on the Board of Directors of Holland Rescue Mission. A lifelong resident of Holland, Chuck is married and has four children. He and his family attend North Holland Reformed Church. E-mail: chbrower@cpaholland.com Ted DeLong, CPA Ted is a graduate of Hope College (BA) and Western Michigan University (MBA). He had 21 years of experience before co-founding DeLong & Brower in 1988. Ted specializes in small business, business start-ups, individual taxes and tax planning. He also maintains a Real Estate license, a security license, and an insurance license. Ted has lived in Holland for more then 60 years and his hobbies range from gardening to coin collecting to playing on a national champion senior softball team. E-mail: tdelong@cpaholland.com Jim Hagel, CFP, CSA  Jim obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, and attained his Certified Financial Planner designation (1988) and Master of Science Degree (1995) from the College for Financial Planning, and became a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) in 2005. He began working at DeLong & Brower in November of 1999, and has over 20 years experience in the financial services field. He does comprehensive financial planning, specializing in wealth management and retirement planning. He is a past president of the Rotary Club of Holland, and is a Director on the Board of the Holland Area Arts Council. He and his wife have been Holland residents since 1982, and have two grown children. E-mail: hagelj@cpaholland.com Mary Benedict, CPP, Payroll Specialist Mary has an Associate's degree in accounting. She joined DeLong & Brower in the summer of 2000 with more than 10 years experience as an office manager, bookkeeper, and payroll coordinator. She is our payroll specialist, and earned her certification as a Payroll Professional (CPP) through the American Payroll Association in September, 2003. Additionally, Mary is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor® and assists clients with training, setup, trouble-shooting and bookkeeping in QuickBooks.  Mary also holds BA and MA degrees in theology, enjoys turning her entire backyard into a wildflower meadow, and volunteers with Hospice of Holland as a bereavement companion. E-mail: mbenedict@cpaholland.com Pamela Bogus, CPA Pam has been with the DeLong & Brower team since 2006.  She received her Master’s degree in accounting from Grand Valley State University.  Previously, she worked in accounting for a private company.  Pam provides tax services for businesses and individuals.  Her experience in the audit area includes businesses, governmental, and non-profit organizations.  Pam is a life-long resident of the Holland area and lives with her husband in West Olive.  They have three grown sons (triplets!). Her diversified work includes areas of tax, compilation, and audit. Jody also specializes in QuickBooks consulting. She is a life-long area resident and lives in West Olive with her husband and three daughters. After doing an internship with DeLong & Brower, he joined the team full time in the summer of 2000. He has experience in audits, compilations, reviews, and taxes for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and not-for-profits. Jeff is a lifelong resident of the Holland area and is a graduate of Holland Christian High School.  He and his wife reside on the north side of Holland. She has had more than 20 years of accounting, auditing and tax experience.  She joined DeLong and Brower in December of 1993. Deb specializes in individual, corporate, non-profit and state taxation.  She audits both for-profit and non-profit entities.  She provides business consulting services and college planning assistance.  Deb is a member of both the American Institute of CPA's and Michigan Association of CPA's.  She has served on a number of boards over the years, and is currently a trustee of the Holland/Zeeland Community Foundation.  Deb is married and has two adult children. E-mail: dclark@cpaholland.com Pam Ebels, Administrative Assistant Pam holds a bachelor's degree in business from Western Michigan University.  She held positions as an office manager, and in banking as a credit analyst, before joining the DeLong & Brower team in January, 2005.  Pam will use her office expertise mostly during tax season.  Pam has supported the community with years of tutoring elementary school children in the Holland Public Schools and currently volunteers with a support group for pregnant teenagers.  Spare time activities include spending time with her two grown daughters, and summer activies like biking and kayaking.  She and her husband are life-long area residents. She worked in the private industry for four years, moved into public accounting for two more years, then joined DeLong & Brower in 1998. Currently her work includes individual and business tax return preparation, planning, and filing; business compilations, retirement plans, and various profit and non-profit audit work. Clients include manufacturers, restaurants, vehicle dealerships, wholesalers & retailers, social clubs and other nonprofit organizations.  Kaileigh lives with her husband and four children in South Haven. E-mail: kceddy@cpaholland.com Cathy Gillette, CPA Cathy received her degree from Grand Valley State University and received her CPA licence in 1995. She joined DeLong & Brower in December of 1998.  She is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning (CSEP) and is certified in Long Term Care (CLTC). She specializes in individual trusts and estate taxation. Cathy lives in Saugatuck with her husband. In 2008, Cathy and Rick took a six month leave from their work and thru-hiked the entire Appalachian Trail.  They have two grown children who live in Colorado.  E-mail: cgillette@cpaholland.com Beverly Loughlin, CPA Bev is a graduate of the University of Baltimore. She owned a small CPA firm in Maryland before moving to Michigan in 1993 when she joined the DeLong & Brower team. Bev updates the computer systems in addition to her normal accounting duties. She is certified in QuickBooks 2007, 2008 and 2009.  She takes an active part in the community and currently serves on the board of Directors for the American Red Cross of Ottawa County. She previously held administrative assistant positions in the insurance, medical and accounting fields, and is also a licensed cosmetologist. Jodi works with time and billing, processes tax returns, and keeps the front office organized. She loves to read, run, and do scrapbooking. Jodi lives on the north side of Holland with her husband and son. E-mail: jprince@cpaholland.com Lori Shepard, Enrolled Agent / Office Administrator Lori joined DeLong & Brower in July, 2004.  She received a BS degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan University in 1986.  Lori became an Enrolled Agent and licensed to practice before the IRS in 2005.  She enjoys working with individual clients in tax compliance, preparation and planning.  Lori is married and has three daughters.  She enjoys reading, Sudoku puzzles, cross stitch, and spending time with her family. E-mail:  lshepard@cpaholland.com  Connie VanderPloeg, Financial Services Specialist Connie attended Davenport College, Ferris State College, and Michigan Technological University where she majored in computer science.  In 2002 she made a career change into the financial services area, and recently joined the DeLong & Brower staff to work with Jim Hagel.  She holds certification in long term care (CLTC).  Connie and her husband are lifelong residents of Holland and have two children. E-mail: cvanderploeg@cpaholland.com Annette Viges, Accountant Annette received a B.S. Degree in Accounting from Ferris State College and an Associate Degree in Paralegal in 1981. She worked for private companies until 1984, when she switched to public accounting. She has worked for DeLong & Brower part-time since December of 1989. The majority of Annette's time is spent working with corporations, partnerships and sole proprietors.  She also assists with payroll processing during busy seasons.   Annette, her husband, Steve Swartz, and two sons moved to Holland in 1986.
